The Unsung History of Southend

It has come to me awareness that Southend is a town with a phenominal cultural history, most of which is not talked about, or celebrated, and thereby detracts from the richness of the town's underlying fabric. In the past 2-years I discovered a few of what I call the "Hidden Gems"... Why is it that so few people are aware of the history of the town? Surely the history of Southend is something that all its residents/citizens should be aware of. It is my opinion that the history of the town we choose to call our home is something to be proud of and to celebrate. In this forum I invite you to share anything that you may know about the history of Southend, or comment on this things that I know about, and will write about here.
